A Loving Nativity Scene That Christians Hate

Religious Conservatives Outraged By Gay Nativity ‘Sacrilege’

Apparently, conservative Christians are queuing up to be outraged by a Christmas nativity scene in a Los Angeles front garden that shows Jesus with two fathers.

It's not the pretty pink matching costumes that they're wearing but the fact that there are two of them which is causing the great gnashings of teeth and calls for retribution on the grounds of 'blasphemy'.

It was this Twitter tweet by Twitter user Cameron Esposito which sent them into a frothing-mouthed, venom-spitting spectacle on the social media.

But how is this a blaphemy? Isn't this exactly what the Bible says when it claims Jesus was the son of God, even making great play of the claim and basing the entire Christian religion on that claim, and also claiming Jesus was the son of Joseph and thus of the 'House of David' in fulfilment of a prophecy?

The Bible even devotes several verses (Matthew 1:1–17; Luke 3:23–38) to listing out Joseph's genealogy to 'prove' this. Admittedly, it doesn't make a very good job of it and ends up with two different genealogies - and there we have another reason why no Bible-reading Christian should object to the idea that Jesus had two fathers because, according to those genealogies of Joseph, so did he - Heli and Jacob.

What's more, Heli and Jacob appear to be brothers, sharing the same father (Matthat or Matthan) who himself seems to have had two fathers - Levi and Eleazar! After that it seems to go completely to pot with no-one really sure who was who's father, let alone how many they had.

A Gay Nativity?

Just came across this photo of a “gay nativity” scene — two Josephs dressed in pink watching over the...

So, Joseph, whom God allegedly cuckolded, seems to have come from a rather strange lineage himself with some very uncertain parentages in it. Mary's mother also seems to have had an 'unusual' family since as well as Mary apparently conceiving parthenogenically, her 84 year-old aunt, Elizabeth, supposedly fell pregnant with Jesus's cousin John. This would have meant there was some 40-50 years difference between Mary's mother and her mother's sister Elizabeth - assuming Mary's mother was of normal child-bearing age and not herself geriatric when she gave birth to the 'immaculately conceived' Mary.

Mind you, this is not so unusual at it might seem, if you believe the UK census records where there are many examples of an elderly couple of about 60 having a son or daughter of a year or two, a brother of sister to their older daughter of about 20. Sometimes there might have been two or three of these miracle children in the same household. Imagine how many more of these there would have been in a society in which pre-marital or adulterous sex was a capital offence, especially for the poor woman!

It's not clear whether the offending Nativity is supposed to be depicting God and Joseph as Jesus' two fathers or Joseph and a boyfriend.

One Christian who is particularly outraged is Roman Catholic Bishop Thomas Tobin, Bishop of Providence, Rhode Island, on America's East Coast, who's congregation were highly unlikely to see the Nativity, so he kindly rushed online to show the picture to the world so they could share in his outrage.

His outrage drew the following support from other outraged Christians:
“What a blasphemous display of hatred towards our Blessed Lord.”

“This is also an offense against the Immaculate Heart of Mary, to remove Her from a nativity scene.”

“That’s an absolute disgrace to the church and everything it stands for!”

“Horrifying.”

One particular Brietbart enthusiast and supporter of 'free speech' so long as you agree with him was especially loving in his response, betraying as it does all the finer points of Christian compassion, humility and non-judgmentalism with:

NOTHING IS SACRED to sick, demented circus monkey liberals! GAY LIBERAL Twitter users celebrated a Christmas nativity scene featuring two gay Josephs last week. LOOK at some of the despicable comments for this!

It really makes you wonder how people can get themselves so worked up and full of hate and bile over the idea of two men or two women being in love. It's almost as though they are trying to repress feeling in themselves that they are ashamed of. It would be tragic if the superstition they were frightened with as children is inhibiting them from coming to terms with their own sexuality.

If you want to help outrage some more Christian fundamentalists, feel fee to copy and spread this image widely.
